I purchased this item about 6 Months ago and I can tell you it has plenty of power and torque for small projects but it's fragile so be careful how you use it, mine broke. The Gear Casing in front is made of plastic and if you get physical with it it will fail.I was assembling a Bed with it and using a Torx bit.I was trying to get the bolts tight and was twisting the bolts beyond what the Motor could handle. This is a great feature of this tool because it has an internal break so you can cinch down Bolts and Screws after the motor stalls.Just be very careful when you do because as I said, the casing for the transmission, located in the nose, is made of plastic and a very weak point of the tool. After torquing about 10 Bolts, the Gear Box cracked and all the Gears in the transmission fell on the floor.I Super Glued it back together and it worked for a while but the second time it came apart it was done for.If you plan on using this for more sturdy construction I suggest getting a cordless driver with a metal Gear Box, like some of the Black and Decker models. They're cheaper as well.
I was amazed. I have always wanted a good moto-tool, but they were always weak and had no battery life. Both units are fabulous. I once used a #25 Torx bit to drive (bury) a 3" screw into a hardwood shelf underneath my Microwave Oven in the kitchen. And it will also take 6 and 8-sided bits. It's well worth the price of $87.00 - $99.00. I have never lost a battery yet.
(My wrist was the problem). It's the favorite tool in my back pocket now. including other Dremels. We got this one last year, including the Dremel tool for polishing & small cutting jobs. it just kept digging. The power in unbelievable. I've used it to sink 1.5" self-tapping metal screws into the I-Beam of my RV. BTW: All of my other bits fit into it, but the dual ended ones.
(for the big kit)ONLY CON: Having the dual unit, we have no place to park both units for simultaneous charging.
It is beyond the two year warranty, so Dremel will not repair it (at a reasonable price). It works beautiful. On the other hand, I love it because it is small enough to do all my around the house jobs, and is powerful enough to get the job done withoug using another screwdriver to tighten after its' usage. I sent Dremel three e-mails asking about their discontinuing this driver, and NEVER received a response back.
I still buy the small tips, bits. Finally, I called Dremel today (11-10-09), and the lady on the phonr said it was discontinued because it didn't sell. I give it a three star rating based on the fact that I both love it and hate it at the same time. I received one of these Dremel Drivers for Christmas two years ago. It's a shame. For that reason I hate it.
I subscribe to the Dremel news bulletin, and I originally knew this driver existed only through that newsletter. However, from this point on, I would be very careful about getting any more rotary tools, or "big" accessories with ther Dremel name.
They used to have such a great name in smaller tools, but has deteriorated in quality and service the past few years. I wanted to get another as a gift, and the stores do not carry them any more.
and lower-priced items. if something should happen to it, so at that time, it will become a dead horse.
It is still working, but it is taking longer to charge it back up to parr. I was told that Dremel was sold to a foreign company about two years ago, and it seems that is true, since their customer servive has turned out the way it is now.
Perhaps I will start to look into Black and Decker, or another type of company that offers a similar product.
Fantastic. It holds a charge for a long, long time, is small enough to reach tricky angles, and is powerful. Perfect for home repairs, building furniture (even with real wood)., and speeding up many jobs around the house.
I have a 9.6 volt cordless drill for the garage and outdoor projects but was looking for something for those small indoor jobs. The Dremel Model 1120, 7.2v, cordless screwdriver is absolutely perfect. Small but has enough torque that can handle any indoor project. Highly recommended.
